New Viva Aerobús flight: Querétaro-Mérida.

The heads of the Secretariats of Tourism of the states of Yucatán, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, and of Querétaro, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, led this day, the presentation of the new flight from Querétaro to Mérida, operated by the airline Viva Airbus.

This flight, which will have two weekly frequencies on Mondays and Fridays, from and to the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ), will open the opportunity to bring the center of the country closer to one of the most important tourist destinations in the country, such as the city of Merida; highlighted the secretary of tourism of Querétaro, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, which will promote the entity to new markets.

"The main intention is to promote the tourist flow between Querétaro and Yucatán, so the people from Yucatán may have the opportunity to enjoy all the tourist attractions of our state, its natural beauty, its tourist infrastructure, its gastronomy; and that they and tourists who already visit it, can come to soak up our culture, our Magical Towns, our Cheese and Wine Route, our Sierra Gorda", highlighted Vega Vázquez Mellado.

Viva Aerobús began operations in Querétaro in 2017, with routes to Monterrey and Cancún (both current routes). It is estimated that Viva Aerobús transports 20 percent of the total number of passengers in the AIQ, and reports that their flights have more than 76 percent occupancy. It is estimated that this flight transports about 50,000 passengers a year.

The Secretary of Tourism of Yucatan, Michelle Fridman Hirsh, highlighted this grand alliance that allows the exchange of tourist flows between these entities, and places them an hour and a half away, and invited the Queretaro residents to enjoy the multiple Yucatán tourist attractions, such as its natural wealth, its renowned gastronomy and the vast historical legacy.

Jorge Gutiérrez de Velasco, director of AIQ, and Walfred Castro Novelo, director of Corporate Communication for Viva Aerobús also attended the presentation.

Since 2017 Viva Aerobus has been established in Querétaro. From January to November 2022, it mobilized more than 257,000 passengers, an increase of 69% compared to 2021.

Mérida became the company's sixth base of operations; during the first 11 months of 2022 it moved 1 million passengers from that destination.

2022 was a historic year for Viva Aerobus, because for the first time, in December, 2 million passengers were transported within a month period. It was also the first year in which the barrier of 20 million passengers was exceeded and likewise in December 2022 the barrier of 100 million mobilized since 2006 was crossed.
