Paseo 5 de Febrero: an engineering work of the future

Paseo 5 de Febrero: the road to a better future: Mauricio Kuri

And so Kuri continues to take Querétaro to the next level.

This road engineering work will include interventions in 8.5 kilometers, six cruise reengineering and two junctions. The cruises in which actions will be carried out are

Zaragoza Avenue, Tlacote Avenue, University Avenue, Railway Bridge, Epigmenio González Avenue, Coahuila Avenue in the La Obrera neighborhood; Access 4 and the Cerro del Tambor.

Avenida Zaragoza, as it presents an important public transport load on the side roads, will be the first station to join the Constituyentes transport axis. The existing bridge will be demolished, the level crossings will be signalized, and an overpass will be made for the central lanes with three lanes in each direction. In addition, two overpasses will be made, one for the Zaragoza extension and another that will come from the Historic Center.

The bridge at the Tlacote crossing will be demolished for being the most inefficient crossing at the moment. In addition, the project will have underpasses in central lanes and overpasses for road additions.

On University Avenue, the current bridge will be demolished to make a passage without elevated bridges, signalized, underpasses will be built in the central lanes, and an overpass that will go from Universidad and will go down to the height of the State Water Commission for incorporations. As in all junctions, safe pedestrian crossings and confined transport lanes, and cycling infrastructure are foreseen, and the railway bridge will be intervened to generate the confined transport lane.

On Epigmenio González, an area where the greatest damage is caused by the rains, two pumping stations will be built, the bridge will be dismantled and the level crossings will be signalized. Direct incorporation of Revolution will be made and underpasses will be made in central lanes and a new elevated bridge will also be built.

At the intersection of Coahuila Avenue, there will be transport stops with transfer areas for suburban transport. In addition, a new junction and an overpass will be built.

On Bernardo Quintana, the continuation of the structuring axis of Avenida de la Luz is planned. The current conditions of the existing bridges will be preserved and confined lanes for transportation will be adapted under the columns.

At the intersection of Access 4, a new bridge will be built, movements at the level will be signalized and an underpass will be built on the 5 de Febrero lateral for Access 4 and an overpass in the central lanes in both directions.

At the Cerro del Tambor crossing, the construction of overpasses is planned to integrate the structuring axis of Avenida de la Luz. It seeks to connect two structuring axes with the axis of 5 de Febrero.

Nowadays is the moment to continue creating conditions to generate investment, prosperity and trust are today, affirmed the governor, Mauricio Kuri González, when presenting Paseo 5 de Febrero, an engineering work that, he said, will become an example of mobility in the 21st century and that will benefit more 300,000 people and users of public transport, around 120,000 motorists and tens of thousands of pedestrians who circulate daily along with one of the busiest avenues in the country.

“At the end of next year, we are going to have a national example trunk walk, where pedestrians will walk comfortably, cyclists safely, public transport users will arrive on time, and motorists will move faster”, he emphasized.

The head of the state Executive Power asserted that he was not hired to manage the problems, nor to overcome difficulties; On the contrary, he said, he asked for the opportunity to serve to make Querétaro a better place, even if it means making difficult decisions. In this vein, he expressed that with the implementation of the project, a response is given to a demand for decades by Querétaro society.

He stressed that the work will give order to the metropolitan area, and from this other benefits will be added such as agility to transfer, punctuality, tranquility, and security; however, he said that its construction will demand sacrifices from everyone. He added that the works will begin, with the participation of a company from Querétaro, with hydraulic and rainwater works to mitigate the floods that citizens face every year.

The Governor assured that the construction of the Paseo 5 de Febrero is the way to a better future, for which he asked for the support, civility, and patience of the people of Querétaro for the transformation of an artery that was modernized for the last time, more than 20 years. Later, he mentioned that in about two months the reengineering of overpasses and depressed vehicular crossings, exclusive lanes for public transport, and the construction of a new junction will be started simultaneously; likewise, the foundations will be laid for an entire mobility restructuring for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users, and motorists, improving its urban image.

He promised that in his government the transfer times will be improved since he said that the future of Querétaro will not be trapped in a traffic jam; In this framework, he listed the Avenida Zaragoza, as it presents an important public transport load on the side roads, will be the first station to join the Constituyentes transport axis. The existing bridge will be demolished, the level crossings will be signalized, and an overpass will be made for the central lanes with three lanes in each direction. In addition, two overpasses will be made, one for the Zaragoza extension and another that will come from the Historic Center.

He promised that in his government the transfer times will be improved since he said that the future of Querétaro will not be trapped in a traffic jam; Within this framework, he listed the instructions that he gave to those responsible for the work and the commitments that he assumes before society: First, the work has been planned with the best talent from Querétaro and the country, without improvisations.

Secondly, he explained that work will be done day and night to meet the deadlines and reduce, as much as possible, the inconvenience to the citizens. The foregoing goes hand in hand with the third point, where he assured that they are working in a coordinated manner with the municipality of Querétaro to have alternate routes ready to facilitate mobility. As a fourth point, he explained that from now and for the duration of the construction of the project there will be signs on the streets, web pages, and information in the media so that the citizens know the scope of the work and the displacement alternatives; In this regard, he urged citizens to stay informed, to respect alternative routes and to be considerate of others. The fifth point, he reflected, is premised on guaranteeing future generations an environmental heritage, which is why the trees that are on February 5 will be protected, transplanted, or relocated. In addition, an innovative program will be launched, which will be a world example: Qrotectores, which will involve the Queretans in a unique environmental effort in the country, the details of which will be announced in the coming days. As a sixth point, he emphasized that 100 percent transparency will be complied with, and everything will be informed and reported to the people; finally, he specified that the seventh point contemplates the comprehensive care brigades in the neighborhoods where the works will be carried out and that they have already been formed; as well as diagnostics and programs to support them. “I shared a vision for which I was elected: which is to take Querétaro to the next level, which means opening an era of achievements, of pride for being the best in Mexico and the world. An invitation to think big, based on talent, knowledge, cooperation, and effort”, he concluded.

At the time, the Secretary of Urban Development and Public Works, Fernando González Salinas, explained the population growth of the state from 1970 to date, which went from 221 thousand inhabitants to 1.64 million in 2022, and also described the main problems that face Avenida 5 de Febrero for several years. The official highlighted the pluvial and sanitary work that includes pumping stations in which two thousand water pipes fit; sanitary drainage line and storm drainage line. In addition to this, he referred that to deal with daily traffic, a new form of mobility will be bet on, which encourages the adoption of new habits; safe passages for pedestrians, infrastructure for cyclists will also be created and public transport will be encouraged.

“To those who live, visit and travel through one of the most important roads in the country, I say: This work… belongs to everyone! As a government, we have to carry out actions that contribute to improving the quality of life of all inhabitants. Today we bet to change from a highway to an urban road”, he pointed out. The announcement was attended by the Chief of Staff, Rogelio Vega Vázquez Mellado; the Secretary of Government, María Guadalupe Murguía Gutiérrez; the senior officer, Mario Ramírez Retolaza; the Private Secretary, Josué Guerrero Trápala; the presiding magistrate of the Judiciary, Mariela Ponce Villa; the president of the Board of Directors of the local Legislature, Luis Antonio Zapata Guerrero; the attorney general, Alejandro Echeverría Cornejo, and the commander of the XVII Military Zone, Rosalino Barrios Barrios.
